OPP chief breaks silence-- 'Right decisions' made on Caledonia... Natives not treated differently, she says

  • Toronto Star:-- After Caledonia, many native leaders say the old way of settling (or ignoring) land claims is dead

Hamilton Spectator: Ont. government finalizes deal to buy disputed Caledonia property  Wednesday, July 5, 2006: Third court hearing re enforcement of injunctions; Ontario government finalizes Henco buyout.
Representatives of colonial governments, the Six Nations DIA band council, the Haldimand Law Association, Henco Industries, and Railink Canada Ltd. will appear again before Superior Court Justice David Marshall today to review progress in resolving the conflict. Marshall ordered the hearing in June out of concern that his injunctions to remove Six Nations people from the reclamation site are not being enforced by the OPP. Press report that at the hearing the Ontario government will announce details of the finalized buyout of Henco.

Thursday, June 29, 2006: Land talks resume; third court hearing re enforcement of injunctions to be postponed

Talks between representatives of the Haudenoniso (Council of Chiefs) and Canada and Ontario governments are restarting today, with negotiators meeting at Ohsweken. According to the Ontario Secretariat of Aboriginal Affairs, talks will include a workplan to continue weekly Thursday meetings throughout July and August. Press report that the hearing ordered for today by Ontario Superior Court Justice David Marshall (to review progress in resolving the conflict) will be postponed to July 5.

June 16...CNW: Arrest warrant executed ; Ontario government buys out Henco and promises more money for Caledonia businesses and non-indigenous residents; US ATF confirms involvement in surveillance of Six Nations; OPP Commissioner calls for land conflict to be resolved by governments, not police...
  • Hamilton Spectator: Woman arrested by native police - Six Nations police arrest Audra Taillefer, one of seven people wanted on warrants after a series of clashes last Friday, and turn her over to the OPP. Charged by the OPP with intimidation and robbery, Taillefer is being held pending a Saturday hearing at the colonial remand court in Cayuga to set a date for trial. ---The charges are in relation to an incident that took place before noon on June 9th, 2006 involving an elderly couple from Simcoe, Ontario who were visiting the Caledonia area. An altercation occurred between the couple and the "occupiers" resulting in an elderly male victim being taken to West Haldimand General Hospital in Hagersville as a precaution.

The June 2, 2006 editorial in the National Post [Dalton McGuinty, scofflaw] is leading everybody except us down the garden path. The injunctions that Justice T. David Marshall of the Ontario Superior Court in Cayuga County were illegal. It is the way “Sheriff” Marshall issued his injunction that imperils the “rule of law”.

  • GUNBOAT DIPLOMACY" AT SIX NATIONS - TRAGIC MISMANAGEMENT OF BOTH INDIGENOUS AND CANADIAN RIGHTS. April 28, 2006. Friday, 10:30 pm. Shotgun diplomacy is much more harmful than people realize. Instead of providing leadership to the Canadian people that it represents, and reassuring the Indigenous people of Six Nations, Canada sent in armed forces. Barricades and yellow tape are blocking peoples' way for 50 square miles. There are three helicopters flying overhead, extra heavily armed police all over the place and a raucous crowd of 300 Caledonians are trying to rush the Six Nations barricades. Everybody's nerves are on edge. People feel like they're caught in the middle of a "war" zone.  Forwarded by Luc Majno

We should think about whether we want a resource and casino driven economy. Do we need to get back to saving the environment as the spirit of the Kaianereh'ko:wa drives us towards? • Canada is a colonial country - It's actually surprising there are so few native blockades, considering the violence that's been done to First Nations communities.
A Six Nations protester mans a barricade in April near Caledonia, Ont. It seems that our dominant society is incapable of really hearing, understanding and acting swiftly, broadly and generously upon native grievances.

  • SIX NATIONS ATTACK AVERTED - IT WAS A FALSE ALARM!
    Submitted by Luc Majno
GOOD NEWS! THE OPP AND RCMP SAID “IT’S A FALSE ALARM”. It was really a normal sadistic police tactic to perfect their psychological strategies to break down the Indians. They want to watch and report on all our movements - who’s on the phone to who, who’s staying and who’s leaving. In other words, they’re testing the waters.

So now they know us, they think. It was a test all along. A dry run to see what everyone was going to do. They found out that no one was going to leave the site of the protest, and more came. We can expect them to continue to toy with us in this kind of way. the very fact that they would set us up for a false alarm like this shows that they are functioning in good faith. They are not respecting the fiduciary obligations that the Crown has assumed over the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island.
