The French sale, the first by a NATO member to Russia, comes despite objections from the U.S. and other NATO members and was disclosed while Mr. Gates was visiting Paris. "I understand that, for some Central and Eastern European countries, the wounds are still there. France wants a new relationship, and that means it needs to go through new exchanges. We cannot, on the one hand, enlist Russia in building this security, and at the same time consider that Russia has not profoundly changed since 1991," said French Defence Minister Morin. The damage done to Israel’s image by allegations of Gaza war crimes in a UN report has ignited a war between the right and left in the Jewish state
Patrick Cockburn: Where war goes, propaganda follows: The largely mythical US success in Iraq is now to be replicated in Afghan towns like Marjah and skirmishes there will be heavily reported.
Ahmadinejad warns Israel against any military move: "If the Zionist regime should repeat its mistakes and initiate a military operation, then it must be resisted with full force to put an end to it once and for all."

AMERICANS’ CLUELESS RESPONSE TO BEING
SCREWED BY CORPORATE CAPITALISM--MALL RIOTS
My comment: I’ll bet Jim Kunstler would have a ball with this one. Talk about dumbed down and clueless. The only response consumption
addicts have to the greatest wealth transfer in the history of the world is to kick and scream over the price of shoes?. Does this give
you a clue about their responses when the shit really hits the fan?.
CONVERSELY:

US Debt Clock
The inflationary depression still dominates and probably will continue to do so. In time the stimulus will fail to work and the
world will slip into total insolvency and deflationary depression. The old M3 is about 3%, but we still have $23.7 trillion floating
around. Not only is the US bankrupt, but also so is the rest of the world. It is now only a question of when the dominos will fall. It
looks like the first wave in the collapse of the bear market rally is underway. Bonds will follow with higher interest rates and eventually
commodities will be hit. Only gold and silver will survive, as the bankers and Wall Street complete their destruction of the world
economy.

The battle-stretched US military Saturday vowed to keep up US assistance in Haiti as long as needed on Saturday as it pointed to a likely 45 to 50 day armed mission. Webmaster’s Commentary:
Don’t bet on that; the battle for the exploitation of oil and mineral rights in Haiti (which will, of course, still leave the Haitian people impoverished beyond belief) has just begun.
Maziki Thame- René Préval sold Haiti to the USA for US$100 million. The Americans’ pledge of US$100 million in assistance to Haiti following the earthquake disaster of January 12 must have sealed the agreement for US control over Haiti. The Americans have been deeply embedded in Haitian politics from its independence, through various dictatorships and throughout its fragile democratisation. A commitment to Haitian democratisation has neve.…

In news from Latin America, Laura Chinchilla is set to become Costa Rica’s first female president. She won Sunday’s election in a landslide. Laura Chinchilla: “Costa Rica is my beloved fatherland. I defend her, I love her, I adore her, and I give my life to her.” Laura Chinchilla is seen as a protégé of Costa Rica’s outgoing president Oscar Arias, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Chinchilla promised to pursue the same economic policies of Arias that recently brought the country into a trade pact with the US and opened commerce with China.
WHERE WILL OUR STAPLE FOODS COME
FROM?. It seems like discussions of gardening are often focused on growing
fruits and vegetables. The question that comes to me is, ‘What do we
do about staple carbohydrate foods?’, like wheat or corn (maize) or
potatoes. These foods are ones that store well, and supply a large
portion of the calories of the diets of most people around the world.
In the US, wheat has tended to be a staple, but it is not easy for a
home gardener to grow, and it requires processing that is more easily
done by commercial equipment. So the question I have is, ‘How should
we plan to get our staple carbohydrate foods going forward?’.
I can think of several
answers:
What will follow the demise of industrial civilization? We do not
know. But one thing is certain: if we do not start putting first
things first and reprioritize our educational system in the
post–carbon era, a tragic replay of our current cultural, economic,
and ecological disintegration is guaranteed.
In short, we must reclaim our education and culture from the grip of
earthly hell and begin planting, so to speak, the seeds of heaven:
morality, community, and environmental stewardship. Long live the
sacred!

Details of British Resident’s Brutal Torture by CIA Officers Released Three senior UK judges on Wednesday ordered the British government to publicly disclose previously highly classified information that reveals how Binyam Mohamed, a British resident, was brutally tortured by the CIA while in Pakistani custody in April and May 2002. In one short session, the Court of Appeal brought an end to a transatlantic game of cat and mouse that for the last year and a half has prevented two high.
HOW THE ERA OF JOBLESSNESS WILL TRANSFORM AMERICA Before it ends, it will likely change the life course and character
of a generation of young adults. It will leave an indelible imprint
on many blue-collar men. It could cripple marriage as an institution
in many communities. It may already be plunging many inner cities
into a despair not seen for decades. Ultimately, it is likely to warp
our politics, our culture, and the character of our society for years
to come.
