US AIRSTRIKE FACES SCRUTINY FROM COALITION…
U.S. House of Representative Alan Grayson led a Congressional delegation that just happened to be in Niger at the time of the recent military coup last Thursday that deposed the legitimate elected government of the Uranium-rich nation.
Even as the American economy shows tentative signs of a rebound, the human toll of the recession continues to mount, with millions of Americans remaining out of work, out of savings and nearing the end of their unemployment benefits.
The Doomsday Cycle Over the last 30 years, the US financial system has grown to proportions threatening the global economic order. This column suggests a ‘doomsday cycle’ has infiltrated the economic system and could lead to disaster after the next financial crisis. It says the best route to creating a safer system is to have very large and robust capital requirements, which are legislated and difficult to circumvent or revise. An Easily Understandable Explanation of Derivative Markets
Never before in history has a world power like the U.S. been so
utterly buried in debt! And never before has that debt been financed
so massively by foreign investors!
COLLEGE STUDENTS: MAJORING IN DEBT
My comment: This is part of the reason I am no longer teaching
college students. Last year when I was, one of my students stated
very clearly: ‘I’m majoring in unemployment’. After forecasting this
for 11 years, it is not surprising, but still rather chilling to see
it happening in front of my eyes.
EXCELLENT: WATCH FULL DOCUMENTARY ONLINE OF ‘MONEY AS DEBT
II’ Bailouts, stimulus packages, debt piled upon debt & Where will it all end?
How did we get into a situation where there has never been more
material wealth & productivity and yet everyone is in debt to
bankers?
And now, all of a sudden, the bankers have no money and we the
taxpayers, have to rescue them by going even further into debt!
Money as debt II explores the baffling, fraudulent and destructive
arithmetic of the money system that holds us hostage to a forever
growing DEBT & and how we might evolve beyond it into a new era
THE POWER OF LOCAL But in more than a hundred communities across North America,
independent community–based businesses had a more positive story to
tell. A nationwide survey of more than 1,800 independent businesses
by the Institute for Local Self–Reliance
(ILSR) found them outperforming chain competitors. Most notably, the
survey found independent retailers in communities with active ‘Buy
Independent or Buy Local’ campaigns reported an increase in holiday
sales three times stronger (up three percent) than those in cities
without such campaigns (up one percent).

Almost everything in our modern economy is either made from oil or
requires oil. As the price of oil begins to skyrocket, therefore, so
will the price of everything else. The same happened on a smaller
scale during the temporary oil crises of the 1970s and 80s. This
rise was referred to in those days as stagflation -- stagnation of
income combined with inflation of prices, something that economists
used to say was impossible. As stagflation returns, the hardest hit
will be those with debts: car payments, house mortgages, credit
cards, student loans. But everyone will find that a dollar just
doesn’t stretch. High prices will be combined with low wages.
Flash Back: Chief global strategist at Morgan StanleyBarton Biggs says Insure yourself against war and disaster by buying a remote farm or ranch and stocking it with ‘seed, fertilizer, canned food, wine, medicine, clothes, etc’.
THE DEATH OF U.S. CAPITALISM: THE FINAL 10 SCENESBy Paul Farrell, submitted by Carolyn Baker
Newsweek staff who play fast and loose with the facts are imperiling not just their profession but the planet. How should scientists respond to the "he said, he said, he said, she said" media world we live in now that science journalism has died?
History in the Remaking
A temple complex in Turkey that predates even the pyramids is rewriting the story of human evolution.
Re–invigorating this program is likely to
further increase the prison population, without a significant drop in crime.
My comment: As we all know, prisons will eventually become inoperable
due to lack of funds, and cities and states will be unable to pay law
enforcement staff. And in case you’ve been laying awake nights
worrying about being put in a FEMA camp, don’t assume there will be
money for those either. Can hand sanitizers like Purell really stop people from getting the flu?
The Picture This was a perfectly healthy twenty two-year-old young man who in the service of his country got half of his head blown off. I think that’s important, I think… Zinn dedicated himself to the fight against forgetting and the struggle to honor history by telling the truth.
EAT YOUR TRASH Food waste in the United States has become a growing problem for our environment. Research shows that on average, 27% of all edible food is wasted every year in the U.S. The cost to not only manufacturethis food, but also to dispose of the waste, is costing us billions of dollars every year. Help our economy and our ecosystem by beingcreative when it comes to throwing out your food.
